My Story

Babalwa Kakaza (born in 1982, East London, South Africa) is an educator, musician, choir conductor, and musical director with a distinguished career spanning across continents. Her versatility as a performer has captivated audiences around the globe, particularly through theatre productions and international music festivals.

Babalwa, who is affectionately known as Babs, studied a Bachelor of Music at Rhodes University, and also holds a Bachelor of Education from NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. With a deep passion for both music and education, she has carved a niche as a musical director for school and semi-professional musical productions, and as a choir conductor. Her dynamic leadership in the choral world has earned her several awards, and she is frequently invited to conduct workshops for aspiring and established choirs alike.

Babs started her teaching career in 2009 and has taught at schools in South Africa and the Netherlands. She currently resides in the Netherlands, where she continues her work in music education. Her dedication to the craft was recognized when she was nominated for the Dutch National Teacher Talent Award (Nationale Onderwijstalenten) in 2024. A strong advocate for expanding arts education in schools, Babs believes deeply in the transformative power of the arts and is passionate about fostering talent development. This belief led her to start her own company, which aims to provide students as well as professionals with the tools and opportunities to succeed in both the creative and academic realms.
